The well known Customer Information Control System (TS CICS) is one of the most widespread transaction processing systems in the world. Supporting three-tier client/server applications makes this TP Monitor also an application and/or transaction server. A wide range of web enablement functions makes CICS/TS an ideal platform for web based applications. To provide the fundamental knowledge needed to understand the role of CICS in a modern dataprocessing environment and to create the necessary starting point for a thorough CICS education was the goal for the newly developed course

CICS Introduction: Concepts and Facilities

Participants:

This course is intended for all DP personnel who need a general introduction to CICS. This course is a prerequisite for the classes in CICS application programming as well as for the system programming classes. Finally this class is useful for CICS operators as well, as it provides background information as well hand on experience with a CICS system.

Prerequisites:

There are no special prerequisites to this class, except that participants should have basic understanding of data processing.

Objectives:

At completion of the course the participants will know the functions and facilities provided by CICS in a modern DP environment. They will be aware of the Client/Server support in CICS and will know the mechanism needed to set up a working CICS environment.

Practical exercises using CICS transactions like CEDA, CEMT, CECI at the terminal
