In spite of all the technical differences of the various members
in the CICS family there is a common foundation that allows to
create portable applications - the CICS API (Application Programming
Interface). This application programming interface, though, makes
it necessary to design the online applications in a vastly different
way than it would be done in a batch environment. Finally, certain
functions and facilities are available in CICS which are not provided
in any other programming environment. The requirements and restrictions
and the functions and facilities of online programming for CICS
are the topics of the newly created course
CICS Application Programming: Introduction and Workshop
Participants:
This course is intended for application programmers with little
or no experience in CICS.
Prerequisites:
The participants should have some knowledge in application programming
with COBOL, PL/I, C/370 or Assembler. The class will be useful
for any environment that supports CICS applications, regardless
of the operating system in use. Some knowledge of CICS, such as
provided by the course C001E "CICS Introduction: Concepts and Facilities:
".
Objectives:
At completion of the course the participants will know all the
commercially useable EXEC CICS commands and will be able to use
them in their own applications. They will know the difference
of conversational and pseudo-conversational programming and will
be able to create both types of programs.
Method:
Classroom lectures in English language
Programming exercises at the terminal
Duration:
