The programming for a CICS environment is standardized using the
Command Level Interface. This allows to write operating system
independent applications using an application programming interface
that is portable between different platforms. But even when the
API hides many of the system details from the application programmer
it is still necessary to know the principles behind the various
CICS commands to be able to use them efficiently.
For a very long time CICS has been (and still is) the foremost
transaction processing environment in the world. This is underlined by
the many additional functions and features that have been added over
the years. CICS is much more than handling "dumb" green screens - CICS
includes distributed processing of requests, communication of
applications across different platforms, and C2B (customer to
business) and B2B (business to business) applications via the web.
Workshop".
CICS Application Programming:
Client/Server and other Advanced Functions & Facilities
Participants:
This course is intended for application programmers that have
already some experience in CICS application programming. It is
also helpful for system programmers that need an understanding
how CICS applications interact with the CICS program.
Prerequisites:
Participants should have basic knowledge of CICS Systems, such
as provided by the course C105E "CICS Application Programming:
Introduction and Workshop".
Objectives:
After the completion of this course the participants will be able
to use the advanced functions and facilities provided by the various
CICS programming interfaces. They will know which performance-relevant
parameters to use, and which other they should avoid. Finally,
they will understand the reasons for certain design rules that
are specified with this course.
Method:
Classroom lectures with many hand-on exercises
Duration:
5 days
